Martha Wainwright – Tell My Sister (BAM May 9 2012)

I was lucky enough to film Rufus Wainwright performing live at the Brooklyn academy of music while touring for “Out of the Game”; his new studio release. He is Affectionately referred to by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet” and praised by The New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. He is the son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and brother of Martha Wainwright but Rufus has achieved his success by carving out his own singular sound in the worlds of rock, opera, theater, dance and film. I tried to film as many songs as i could get away with that night but its hard to balance that while trying to enjoy the show! This song is preformed by Martha Wainwright his very talented sister. Enjoy!

Martha Wainwright Tell My Sister Lyrics /
Kate & Anna Mcgarrigle Tell My Sister Lyrics

Weather man on the radio
threatens rain maybe snow
He just forecasts he don’t know
I need blue skies
I’ve got to go

I’m not a cowboy, I’ve never been shot
I’m not a convict I’ve never been caught
Tell my sister
To tell my mother
I’m coming home
Home, alone

Sunday morning I boarded a plane
Leaving London England
In the pouring rain
Tell my sister
To tell my mother
I’m coming home
Home alone
Someday I’ll be back again
To that green and pleasant land
Between the Channel and the sea
Across the ocean, that’s where I want to be

But until the, tie me to the ground
I’ve got to let these weary bones rest
From all that runnin’ around
Tell my sister
To tell my mother
I’m coming home
Home alone
